Parcels and lines: weight, volume, duty and protection on MambaBuy

Shipping lines for ten destinations, cheapest kilo first

MambaBuy's public estimator asks for destination, warehouse, weight, item properties and box size, then lists the lines that fit. We read the same line data for ten countries on 21 October 2026 and kept the one-kilo price of every line; the table keeps only the cheapest per country.

Most UK and EU lines carry "Tax & Duty included" in their name, which means the line handles the duty. EMS lines to the US, Canada and Australia say the opposite in their own remarks: import tax is the buyer's, and the local postal service asks for it before delivery.

The line remarks also say what each line will carry. For the UK, RM04-PF is marked as a perfume channel and UK-DPD-TM03 as a perfume route, while UK-DPD-PH01 takes general goods only, with batteries, powders, liquids and food excluded. That is why the estimator asks for item properties: tick them honestly and the list of lines shrinks to the ones that will accept the parcel.

Volumetric weight: when the carton outweighs the goods

Two weights compete on every line, the reading on the scale and the carton volume over a divisor the line chooses, and the heavier one is billed. MambaBuy's help article allows four divisors, from five to eight thousand. In the line data we read, Royal Mail, DHL, DPD and the Canada line use 8,000, the EMS lines use 6,000, and the Australian China Post SAL line ignores volume altogether.

Most lines then round up in half-kilo steps. Our drill box weighed 1.6 kg in a carton of 40 x 30 x 12 cm: 14,400 cubic centimetres over 8,000 is 1.8 kg, and the half-kilo step lifts that to 2.0 kg. Asking the warehouse to remove shoe boxes or pack small items inside a suitcase are both free and both shrink the carton.

Customs and duty, in MambaBuy's words

MambaBuy splits routes into tax-free and non-tax-free. On tax-free routes it declares with the logistics provider and clears the parcel for you, though you may be asked for documents. On the others every duty and clearance fee is yours, and so is the cost if customs cannot reach you and sends the parcel back or destroys it. For proof of payment MambaBuy provides order payment screenshots, not invoices.

On 14 July 2026 MambaBuy announced that consolidated parcels to the EU are temporarily exempt from the new fixed EUR 3 duty per product category that the EU began charging on 1 July. The notice says the exemption is offered by its logistics channels and will be announced in advance when it ends.

Shipping Protection tiers and MambaBuy's exclusions

Shipping Protection is MambaBuy's own plan, not insurance from an insurer. It costs CNY 35 per shipment for goods up to CNY 3,000, CNY 70 up to CNY 6,000 and 2% of the value above that, and has to be added before the parcel ships. It pays the goods value, never the freight, up to CNY 10,000 per parcel, for complete loss, missing items (with an unedited unboxing video) and seizure at the first customs check. EMS parcels are covered for loss only. Without protection, MambaBuy pays nothing for a lost parcel.

Claims go in within 7 days, documents within 72 hours of being asked. Reviews take up to 15 working days and approved payouts come after 30 working days, to PayPal, Alipay or the MambaBuy wallet.

Cut-off times, Sundays and holidays

Freight settled before five in the afternoon, China time, means the parcel leaves that day; later payments go the next working day, and Sunday is a rest day. Holidays shift everything: for National Day 2026, parcels had to be fully paid by 18:00 on 29 September to leave before the break, and shipping resumed at 09:00 on 7 October. Sellers in China also pause over holidays, so goods arrive at the warehouse later than usual.
